Nancy Anderson in Apparition of the Eternal ChurchJackie Beat is a drag star of stage and screen. Highlights of her career include leading roles in the movies Grief (1993), Wigstock (1995) and Scream, Teen, Scream! (1996), which was based on her stage play. Her cabaret performances have entertained and humiliated audiences at Club Fez in New York, Trannyshack in San Francisco, and God only knows what sorts of venues in Los Angeles. Her Christmas show, "Jesus Christ, It's Your Birthday!", was cited by the Catholic League for Religious & Civil Rights 1998 Report on Anti-Catholicism. If I had known that I never would have interviewed her for this movie. I first encountered Jackie at the Cock, a bar in the East Village, where she yelled at me for crossing the "stage" during one of her "performances." Apparently she has forgotten this incident, because she consented to be interviewed at my home in San Francisco prior to a disastrous screening of Scream, Teen, Scream (DVD compatibility problem) at Peaches Christ's Midnight Mass movie series at the Bridge Theater. More about Jackie (if you can stand it) at http://www.jackiebeat.net/. San Francisco transplant Dan Becker is a free spirit, a crackerjack clogger, a skilled picture framer and artisan, and one of the nicest guys I know ever to have been mummified. We were introduced by his boyfriend, Barry Owen, and did our interview at the Bar Nothing in 2004.
