Robert
Mann was first violinist
of the Juilliard String Quartet from the year he founded it, in 1946,
until 1997. In addition to that unparalleled tenure, during which the
Juilliard Quartet premiered dozens of new works and
performed and recorded hundreds of others, Mann is an accomplished conductor,
composer and teacher. I should know, as I
was one of his students.
I interviewed Mann at his Manhattan
apartment in 2005. |
