Ron Gallman is director of education
for the San Francisco Symphony. He has written articles and notes for
the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, the New York Philharmonic,
the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and others. He gives frequent pre-concert
lectures for the San Francisco Symphony, as he has for the New World
Symphony, San Francisco Opera, the University of California at Berkeley,
and the American Symphony Orchestra League. He is also a tenor with
the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
Ron and I met when he was supervising the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, in which I was a section violinist in high school. We were reunited a few years later when I joined the orchestra’s 1989 Asian tour as a stringer. I interviewed him at the Bar Nothing in 2004.
