Alexandra
Beller,
artistic director of Alexandra Beller/Dances in New York, danced with
the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company from 1995 to 2001. Her choreography
has graced the stages of the 92nd St. Y, Aaron Davis Hall, Danspace
Project at St. Mark's, Joyce SoHo, P.S. 122, WAX, HERE, The Connelly
Theater, SUNY Purchase College, The Frederick Loewe Theatre, and Jacob's
Pillow. She contributed to John Turturro's film Romance
and Cigarettes and was the collaborator and subject of "Dancer," a series
of photographs by Irving Penn shown at the Whitney Museum in 2002
and around the world.
I first saw Alexandra dance at the Galapagos Art Space
in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the summer of 2005, and subsequently
